going downhill fast
they do not keep regular hours, the service sucks, the food is good sometimes, sometimes not. .. they don't know how to cook eggs. the price varies according to who waits on you. they have forgotten their roots and the local people. ... they are taking their success for granted. will it last? can the students keep it going? probably. but they have lost sight of their original heart in the community. - rachael , posted 06/03/11

A great new place!
I don't know if any socialists actually work there, or how someone not supervising their child is the restaurant's fault, but I do know that the food is some of the best in the city and the coffee is amazing! The staff seems to be having fun while working, and they even offer a drive-up window for drinks. You should do yourself a favor and check out Eli and the other good people at Cafe Berlin! - marlene , posted 02/26/07

food good, prices ok, some issues with cleanliness
I had the scrambled eggs with veggies - received a huge portion or wonderfully crisp veggies (onions, zuchinni, spinach, etc.) and nicely herbed eggs. Overall I felt the prices were reasonable considering the great food I received.

I had issues with the dirty looking floor and the placement of the water and condiment bar. The floor really needs a good cleaning - it was sticky and blackened in some areas the last time I went in. The water and condiment bar is placed on a table that is "toddler accesible". I observed a child unattended playing with hands in the water pitchers while I was there. - - if the condiment table were taller, then the child couldn't reach the water and there would be no problem. Kids get away from their parents in relaxed settings sometimes. the environment is otherwise very child friendly. - P and J , posted 02/28/07

New Restaurant where the Root Cellar was
My daughter and I visited Eli and his staff at the new Cafe Berlin this morning for breakfast. Was good food for a very reasonable price! We tried the oatmeal and the buttermilk pancakes...I plan on going back.

They are just newly opened so they haven't gotten their service mojo worked out yet...but don't let that stop you from going by and trying out breakfast or lunch.

Open Tuesday - Sunday from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Sample of Menu items:

Mediterranean Breakfast - 2 free range eggs scrambled with scallions & parsley, served with hummus, tomato, Kalamata olives and pite or toast $6.95

Egg & Veggie Burrito - 2 free range eggs scrambled with Monterey Jack, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, squash and scllion rolled into a flour tortilla $5.95

or the Cafe Berlin Mixed Green Salad - bowl of organic mixed greens, cilantro, pepper, scallions, tomatoes, kalamata olives, raspberries, cucumber, cheese crumbles and bread of choice $5.95 - Duchess Aletheia , posted 12/12/06
