contact improv
is a dance/art form involving dancers supporting each others' weight through a point of contact while moving through space.
as an improvisation form, every dance is different,
so the focus becomes the physical dialogue of the bodies,
an exchange of energy and movement and
the sensations of what it means to be a body in the world.
in this work/playshop, we will explore the foundations of contact improvisation
as we laugh
and dance
together.
no dance experience necessary.
please wear comfortable clothing you can roll around in and if you have cloth kneepads, please bring them.
Guest facilitator Amanda Franz is a missouri born dreamer of dreams. she has been dancing all around the world since the beginning of time. the threads of the dance forms contact improv and butoh were placed in her skull and body and toes at the lovely oberlin college. from there she grew wings and was able to dance without moving. traveling within the states and without the states, she performed and/or taught and/or just danced danced danced to her hearts' desire. her latest stretch of life finds her in the beautiful mountains of vermont, where she sings to the trees, plays with the snow, performs all sort of things, and facilitates a contact improv community/jam.
